Portugal announced the continuation of its easing of restrictions on the electrical interconnection capacity for imports from Spain, after electricity exchange operations between the two countries were halted last month due to a power outage.

The electricity distribution company in Portugal, Redes Energéticas Nacionais, announced on its website that the maximum capacity for importing electricity from Spain will be raised to 1,500 megawatts from May 19 to 26, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. local time, according to Bloomberg News.

There will be no restrictions during other times, while Portugal will also export electricity to Spain.

Following the power outage, the electricity distribution company in Portugal had announced restrictions on electricity imports with a maximum limit of 1,000 megawatts between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. local time, and 2,200 megawatts during other times, from May 12 to 19, as part of a continuous “stabilization” process.

It is worth noting that the power outage on April 28 caused electricity interruptions in both Portugal and Spain for several hours, affecting public transportation, communication systems, and other services.
