The European Parliament approved on Thursday the imposition of additional tariffs on millions of tons of fertilizers imported from Russia to Europe each year, despite concerns from the agricultural sector over rising global prices.

The measure was adopted with 411 votes in favor, 100 against, and 78 abstentions. The European Union intends to gradually increase customs duties on Russian and Belarusian fertilizers with the aim of ending imports from these countries within three years.
