Nadia Fettah wins the award for Best Finance Minister in Africa

Nadia Fettah, Minister of Economy and Finance, was awarded the title of Best Finance Minister of the Year during the 2025 African Banker Awards ceremony held last night in Abidjan.

Fettah received this recognition at an awards gala organized alongside the African Development Bank’s annual meetings, in acknowledgment of her prudent macroeconomic policies and the reforms she has initiated to create a favorable investment climate.

In other award categories, Patricia Ojangole, Managing Director of Uganda Development Bank, was named “Banker of the Year.”

Meanwhile, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria received the “Best Central Bank Governor” award. Idrissa Nassa, Executive Director of Coris International Bank, won the “Lifetime Achievement” award, and TDB Bank from East and Southern Africa was recognized as the “African Bank of the Year.”

The award for “Development Financial Institution” went to the Kenyan Trade Guarantee Agency, while Tanzania’s CRDB Bank won the “Best Bank for Small and Medium Enterprises” award.

In the “Deals of the Year” category, Afreximbank, Africa Finance Corporation, and Bank of Industry were honored with the “Deal of the Year – Debt” award, while PwC Nigeria and the African Development Bank received the “Deal of the Year – Equity” and “Deal of the Year – Infrastructure” awards.

As for regional awards, the following banks were recognized: “Commercial International Bank” in North Africa, “Mauritius Commercial Bank” in the South, “Equity Bank” in East Africa, “BGFIBank” in Central Africa, and “Guaranty Trust Bank” in West Africa.

In the categories of innovation and sustainability, South Africa’s Nedbank won the “Sustainable Bank” award, while 4G Capital was named “Best Fintech Company.”

The African Banker Awards are organized by African Banker magazine and IC Events, in partnership with Business in Africa Events, to celebrate excellence and leadership in the banking and financial sectors across the African continent.
