Morocco Commits to Achieving Joint Development in Africa
In Santo Domingo, Morocco’s commitment to joint development on the African continent was highlighted during the celebration of Africa Day in the Dominican Republic.
During this event, Morocco’s Ambassador to the Caribbean nation, Hicham Dehan, emphasized the strategic and integrated nature of three initiatives launched in alignment with King Mohammed VI’s vision. These initiatives include the Africa-Atlantic Gas Pipeline, the royal initiative to facilitate access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, and the Africa Atlantic States process.
Dehan stated that these three initiatives fall within Morocco’s solidarity and proactive commitment to Africa, according to a statement from the Kingdom’s embassy, which commemorated Africa Day on Monday for the fourth consecutive year in partnership with the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and the Dominican-Moroccan Friendship Association.
The event was attended by several Dominican figures, including Minister of Higher Education Franklin Garcia Fermín, along with ambassadors, deputies, academics, journalists, and members of the Moroccan community residing in the Dominican Republic.
On this occasion, the ambassador noted that this day coincided with the celebration of International Football Day, highlighting Morocco’s active sports solidarity with African countries, particularly by enabling them to benefit from its sports infrastructure and sharing technical expertise in training.
In this context, he referred to Morocco’s organization of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025, the FIFA World Cup in 2030, and the upcoming five editions of the Women’s Under-17 World Cup from 2025 to 2029.
Regarding the commemoration of International Peacekeepers Day on May 29, the diplomat reaffirmed Morocco’s historical, steadfast, and effective commitment to achieving stability in Africa within a model that integrates peace, security, and development.
In this regard, he mentioned that this commitment has been manifested through Morocco’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations since 1960, in addition to its efforts in mediation for peaceful resolutions to conflicts in Africa.
