Morocco and the World Health Organization Strengthen Cooperation to Support Health System Reforms
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amin Tahraoui, discussed today in Rabat with the Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean, Hanan Hassan Balhi, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom. This meeting is part of efforts to solidify the fruitful relations between Morocco and the World Health Organization, which is a key partner in implementing health programs both locally and regionally.
In a statement to the press, the minister confirmed that Morocco is undergoing a deep and comprehensive reform of its health system, aimed at restructuring and enhancing social equity in access to treatment, particularly through the universal health coverage project and the expansion of social protection. He emphasized the Kingdom’s leading role as a regional health hub, thanks to its expertise and advanced infrastructure, qualifying it to be a crucial partner in international health initiatives and effective cooperation to address challenges and achieve sustainable development.
On her part, the Regional Director expressed her support for the reforms Morocco is undertaking in the health sector, praising the visionary royal approach that supports health sovereignty in Africa. She stressed the need to deepen cooperation between the organization and the Kingdom, affirming that Morocco serves as a model in public health and can act as a bridge connecting the organization with African countries to launch joint initiatives.
