From Defender to Scorer: A Moroccan Talent Steadily Rising to the Women’s National Team

The 2024-2025 season of the Moroccan Women’s Professional League concluded, highlighting the emergence of young talents, most notably Fatima Zahra Nainai, a player for Hilal Temara, who delivered an impressive season both in performance and statistics.

She scored 14 goals in 21 matches, ranking fourth among Moroccan top scorers and ninth overall, despite missing five matches due to injury. This statistic reflects her offensive effectiveness, especially considering she does not play as a direct striker but fills various positions on the field.

In the national team, she plays as a right-back, benefiting from her speed and high fitness levels, while her coach at Hilal Temara utilizes her in a variety of roles, from defense to wing play. This versatility has earned her the confidence of the coaching staff, making her a key player on the team.

Although Hilal Temara finished the season in seventh place, Nainai stood out as one of its brightest stars and has begun receiving offers from major clubs. However, her contract with the team remains valid for another season.

On the international level, Fatima Zahra has accumulated valuable experiences, having participated with the Under-17 team, captained the Under-20 team, and played as a starter in all matches of the World Cup in that category. She was also the youngest player in the Under-23 team during the Accra Games.

In a brief statement, she emphasized that playing for the national team is both an honor and a responsibility, expressing her goal to develop herself daily, considering her position less important than her contribution to the team. She affirmed that hard work is the only path to achieving her ambitions.

Her coach at Hilal Temara described her as a rare player, possessing a high tactical sense and calmness in front of goal, making her reliable in multiple positions. She sees Nainai as the future of Moroccan women’s football and expects to see her soon with the senior national team.

With her talent and continuous development, Fatima Zahra Nainai is approaching the representation of the senior national team. She is not just a goal scorer but a comprehensive player, a natural leader, and a name poised to make a significant impact in Moroccan women’s football.
