Leila Benali, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, held talks on Tuesday in Rabat with Doto Mashaka Biti, the Tanzanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy. Biti is on a working visit to Morocco until May 15, leading a delegation that includes officials and representatives from energy institutions.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong relations between Rabat and Dar es Salaam, highlighting ways to expand cooperation in the fields of energy and energy transition within Morocco’s framework to enhance South-South partnerships, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
Benali emphasized that Africa is a strategic priority for the Kingdom, describing it as the last reservoir of productive potential in the world and calling for investment in its capabilities. She stated that Morocco is ready to support Tanzania in its energy transition by sharing experiences and transferring knowledge in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The minister outlined the key aspects of the national strategy in this area and mentioned projects aimed at rehabilitating the energy infrastructure following the Al Haouz earthquake, as well as the program to extend electricity to the remaining rural areas, which has achieved a coverage rate of 99.9% through solutions including mini-grids and storage systems.
For his part, the Tanzanian official expressed his country’s appreciation for its relations with Morocco, recalling King Mohammed VI’s visit to Dar es Salaam in 2016, which paved the way for broader economic cooperation. He affirmed that the Dar es Salaam Declaration represents a starting point for activating advanced partnerships, urging the acceleration of the implementation of signed agreements and opening up to new projects, particularly in technology and clean energy sectors.
This meeting is part of Morocco’s efforts to expand its partnerships within the African continent through practical programs and strategic projects that enhance the continent’s position in the global energy transition equation.
