Amine Benhachem: “The Porto match taught us a new lesson ahead of the Club World Cup”
Amine Benhachem, coach of Wydad Casablanca, stated that the match against Portuguese club Porto was a tough test compared to their previous encounter with the Spanish side Sevilla. He pointed out that Porto played the match with all their key players, making the task even harder.
In the press conference that followed the match, Benhachem explained that his team aimed to stick to the tactical plan they intend to adopt in the Club World Cup, which focuses on tight defensive positioning and counter-attacks. He added, “Just like in the Sevilla match, the Porto game showed that a high level of play does not forgive mistakes, unlike the Moroccan professional league, which might allow certain errors without necessarily affecting the final result.”
In another context, Benhachem addressed the signing of player Al-Wasiti, confirming that the decision was made with his personal agreement, and the player fits into his future tactical vision. He remarked, “Al-Wasiti had one of his best seasons, and he is a versatile player who can play as a full-back, winger, or midfielder. His height also provides a qualitative addition, especially in African competitions that require players capable of handling set pieces.”
The Wydad coach emphasized that Al-Wasiti’s presence does not necessarily mean he will always be in the starting lineup, noting that some signings are made to enhance the coach’s options for changes and tactics during matches.
Benhachem concluded his remarks by asserting that the team is following a clear plan in preparation for upcoming challenges, primarily the Club World Cup, stressing the importance of benefiting from these international matches to improve the team’s performance and readiness.
