Abdel Samad Khiou, Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, held talks today in Doha with Qatari Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani, focusing on ways to enhance cooperation in the field of air transport.
The meeting, attended by Mohamed Stri, Morocco’s ambassador to Qatar, and members of the Moroccan delegation participating in the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) conference on facilitating the future of air transport, provided an opportunity for the Moroccan minister to highlight various initiatives Morocco is undertaking to ensure smooth air transport while guaranteeing the highest standards of security and passenger safety.
Khiou stated to the press that this meeting was an opportunity to review projects being pursued by the kingdom under the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to develop infrastructure related to transport, especially air transport, in preparation for various events Morocco will host, including the 2030 FIFA World Cup, along with post-event planning.
In this context, Khiou emphasized that while the significance of the 2030 milestones cannot be overstated, the most crucial aspect for Morocco is what comes after 2030. He noted that all of Morocco’s current projects, including highways, new-generation railways, high-speed trains, and airport expansion initiatives, aim to increase the kingdom’s airport capacity from 38 million to 80 million passengers by 2030.
Additionally, he highlighted that during this meeting, there was a discussion on Qatar’s experience with air transport during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the measures taken to ensure smooth mobility to and from Doha. He also mentioned the ongoing initiatives and projects in Qatar aimed at improving air transport quality and services.
Khiou concluded that the Qatari minister expressed his country’s keen willingness to strengthen cooperation with Morocco in the field of air transport.
