Morocco Hosts the 31st Meeting of the Advisory Committee for the Mining Sector of the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization

The 31st meeting of the Advisory Committee for the Mining Sector of the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization kicked off yesterday, Monday, in Ben Guerir, featuring representatives from 21 Arab ministries concerned with the mining sector.

The meeting, organized jointly by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization, addresses topics related to enhancing Arab cooperation in the mining field, ways to develop regional integration, benefiting from leading experiences in the development of mining projects, and exchanging expertise in capacity building.

Discussions will continue until April 24 and will cover the achievements made during the period between the 30th and 31st advisory committee meetings concerning mining in Arab countries.

The meeting will also include a presentation on updates to the “Arab Future Minerals Platform,” as well as the approval of the preliminary document for the “Guiding Roadmap for Energy Transition Minerals in the Arab Region,” which was prepared within the framework of the Arab Initiative for minerals used in clean energy technologies.

This document will be submitted to the tenth consultative meeting of Arab ministers responsible for mineral wealth, to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in conjunction with the “Future Minerals” conference in January 2026 for its adoption.

In conjunction with the meeting, field visits will be organized for advisory committee members to several exemplary mining sites and facilities, including the underground mine “Yellow Shield” and the Kamasa industrial complex operated by Managem, as well as the open-pit mine in Ben Guerir and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University of OCP Group, aimed at allowing participants to closely observe the Moroccan experience in developing mining industries.

The Advisory Committee for the Mining Sector is considered one of the technical and advisory mechanisms under the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization, playing a crucial role in supporting coordination and enhancing cooperation among Arab countries in the fields of industry and mining, particularly through the preparation of unified Arab standards for products and administrative systems related to the mining sector, with the aim of achieving industrial and mining integration.

It is noteworthy that the committee includes representatives from all Arab member states of the organization, holding periodic meetings annually in one of the member countries.
