The Ministry of National Planning, Land Management, Housing and Urban Policy has announced the launch of the first edition of the “Water Efficiency in Housing” award.

In a statement, the ministry indicated that the launch of this award comes in response to the high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, aimed at rationalizing water consumption and accompanying public policies related to the structural transformations of water resources.

According to the statement, this award, organized in partnership with the Al Omrane Group, falls within the framework of the roadmap concerning water conservation in urban planning and housing, part of the ministry’s new strategic vision. It is also seen as a result of the national dialogue on urban planning and housing, aimed at enhancing the housing sector’s ability to adapt to environmental challenges, primarily water scarcity.

This initiative seeks to promote sustainable, innovative, and resource-efficient housing models, rewarding housing projects that employ rational water management and encouraging the adoption of innovative technical solutions and the promotion of best practices aimed at sustainably reducing water consumption throughout the life cycle of buildings.

In this context, innovative ideas related to water economy in the housing sector will be rewarded, submitted by project owners, engineers, start-ups, associations, students, and other relevant parties. The award will also highlight existing initiatives that contribute to water consumption rationalization within housing.

The statement added that the Minister of National Planning, Land Management, Housing and Urban Policy, Fatimah Zahraa Mansouri, confirmed that “water is now a vital resource facing increasing pressure. Through this award, we aim to stimulate innovation and mobilize all stakeholders in the sector to prioritize water efficiency in the design, construction, and renovation of housing,” underscoring that “it conveys a strong message of our shared commitment to current and future generations.”

A ceremony will be organized to award the best projects, established practices, and innovative ideas in the field of water economy, according to the following two categories: a completed or ongoing project (for professionals and institutions), and a competition to present innovative ideas and solutions (for professionals, institutions, and students).

It is noteworthy that the deadline for submitting applications has been set for June 30 at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Planning, Land Management, Housing and Urban Policy. The application file can be downloaded via the following link: www.mhpv.gov.ma.
