Fawzi Lekjaa: Hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is an opportunity to stimulate the economy and enhance infrastructure

The Minister Delegate in Charge of the Budget and President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fawzi Lekjaa, confirmed today in Rabat that hosting major sporting events represents a strategic opportunity for comprehensive developmental renewal across various regions of the kingdom, particularly the cities that will host matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Lekjaa’s statement came after a meeting held at the Ministry of the Interior to assess the progress of renovation and rehabilitation works at the stadiums in the six host cities: Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Fez, Marrakech, and Tetouan. He explained that the primary aim of organizing such events goes beyond just the sporting aspect, extending to stimulating the local economy and creating real opportunities for Moroccan youth to benefit from the dynamics accompanying these occurrences.

He added that the meeting also discussed the readiness of the concerned parties to host the Africa Cup of Nations as a preliminary stage, in preparation for the joint organization of the 2030 World Cup. He emphasized that the pace of the work is proceeding positively, and all sports infrastructure will be ready within the specified timelines, ensuring an organizational image that befits Morocco’s standing on the international stage.

The meeting saw the participation of the Minister of the Interior, along with governors and heads of the councils of the six relevant regions and mayors of major cities, along with officials from several national institutions such as the National Office of Railways, the National Office of Airports, the National Motorway Company, the National Agency for Regulation of Telecommunications, and the National Agency for Public Equipment.

This institutional mobilization reflects the extent of Morocco’s commitment to successfully hosting these events and transforming them into a true engine for regional development.
