Khalihane Ould Rachid discusses in Rabat with a delegation from the Central American Parliament

The President of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Khalihane Ould Rachid, met on Tuesday in Rabat with the President of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), Carlos René Hernández, who is on an official visit to Morocco at the head of an important delegation.

Hernández confirmed in a statement to the Moroccan News Agency following the discussions that this meeting presented an opportunity to review the autonomy plan for the Sahara, which Morocco submitted to the United Nations in 2007 to end this regional conflict, as well as to understand the interest that the Kingdom places on a peaceful solution to this issue.

In this context, Hernández reiterated the regional parliamentary body’s position supporting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and its sovereignty over its southern provinces, expressing the body’s commitment to the principle of respecting the territorial unity of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.

He pointed out that the parliamentary delegation would visit the southern provinces to learn about the major projects underway in this part of the Kingdom, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

In this context, he praised the quality of the historical cooperative relations between Parlacen and the Moroccan Parliament, recalling Morocco’s support for the integration process in Central America, particularly in the economic and political fields.

He added that Morocco is considered a “strategic and reliable” partner for the Central American region, expressing Parlacen’s determination to continue working with Morocco, particularly through both houses of parliament.

During this meeting, Ould Rachid provided an overview of the national cause since the beginning of the fabricated conflict over the Moroccan Sahara and the efforts made by the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs in this regard.

It is worth noting that the Moroccan Parliament, in both its chambers, joined Parlacen as an observer member on June 16, 2015. The regional legislative body includes the parliaments of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.
