In a scathing statement during a press conference directed at international media, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar described the International Court of Justice sessions in The Hague regarding UNRWA as a “legal circus,” deeming them a blatant attempt to weaponize international law against Israel while entities actually complicit in supporting terrorism—namely, the United Nations and UNRWA—escape accountability.

Sa’ar stated, “We are witnessing a new chapter of international judicial exploitation, where the state that defends itself is put on trial, while those that have allowed their institutions to be infiltrated by Hamas are exempt from accountability. UNRWA has ceased to be a relief agency; it has become a cover for terrorism, housing over 1,400 individuals involved in massacres, including employees who directly participated in the events of October 7.”

The minister accused UN Secretary-General António Guterres of “complicit silence,” asserting that Israel has repeatedly warned about the infiltration of UNRWA from within, yet these warnings were met with disregard and even cover-up.

Sa’ar added, “What is happening in The Hague is not justice but a systematic political persecution of the State of Israel, which is being judged for the fourth time since October 7, while the instigators, financiers, and supporters of terrorism remain untouched by any accountability.”

The minister concluded by reiterating his country’s rejection of any legitimacy towards what he termed a “theatrical farce,” emphasizing that Israel will not recognize any jurisdiction of a politicized court, which he views as “an instrument in the hands of the enemies of the Jewish state.”
