Hungary reaffirms its support for the autonomy plan

On Wednesday, Hungary, through its Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, reiterated its support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007, stating that it should be the “basis for a solution” to the Moroccan Sahara issue within the framework of the United Nations.

The minister indicated that his country is aware of the positions reiterated by the United States and France in this regard.

Szijjártó expressed this stance in a statement to the press following discussions held in Budapest with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita.

In his statement, the Hungarian Foreign Minister announced that he had instructed his country’s ambassador to Morocco to visit the Sahara, following the example of ambassadors from other major countries in the kingdom.

In a separate context, the Hungarian minister decided that from now on, the consular services of the Hungarian Embassy in Morocco would be available to all Moroccan citizens throughout the kingdom.

Thus, Hungary clearly renews its affirmation of support for the autonomy plan, bolstering the international momentum highlighted by the recent UN Security Council resolution 2756, which calls for its immediate implementation.
