The judicial police in the Laayoune region successfully apprehended an individual on Thursday, April 24, who is suspected of being involved in a serious case of academic certificate forgery and their usage. This came about after thorough investigations were initiated following the detection of suspicious advertisements on social media platforms.

The police had launched a judicial inquiry following the circulation of electronic posts offering diplomas and academic certificates for illegal sale. The investigations led to the identification of two individuals suspected of engaging in this criminal activity, resulting in the arrest of one, while efforts continue to locate the second suspect, whose identity has been fully established.

The search operation conducted in connection with this case resulted in the seizure of dangerous materials used in forgery, including 69 forged diplomas, 28 certificates equivalent to vocational training diplomas, as well as 47 forms for diploma issuance and 8 forged stamps belonging to various institutes.

A central processing unit and a digital storage device were also confiscated, which are suspected to contain digital traces related to the criminal activity. Additionally, a bank card and 16 money transfer receipts representing proceeds from the forgery operations were found.

The primary suspect is currently undergoing interrogation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, aimed at uncovering all links in this criminal network and identifying all individuals involved and benefiting from these activities that undermine the credibility of educational certificates.

Investigations are ongoing with the intention of apprehending the second suspect, while authorities emphasize the necessity of reporting any suspicious online activities to protect trust in the educational system and combat cybercrime.
