Burkina Faso Foils “Major Conspiracy”

The ruling military council in Burkina Faso announced yesterday evening that it has thwarted a “major conspiracy aimed at spreading widespread chaos in the country,” indicating that those behind it are residing in Ivory Coast, which the military continuously accuses of harboring its opponents.

Mohamedou Sana, the Minister of Security, stated in a broadcast on national television, “The diligent work carried out by intelligence agencies revealed a major conspiracy being prepared against our country, with the ultimate goal of sowing comprehensive chaos.”

Sana added that “the conspiracy involved, according to the terrorists’ plan, an attack on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, against the Presidency of Burkina Faso by a group of soldiers recruited by the nation’s enemies.”

The minister reported that “the masterminds abroad are all located in Ivory Coast,” specifically mentioning Commander Joani Compaoré and Lieutenant Abdurrahmane Barry, both of whom are runaway officers.

According to Sana, around ten soldiers have been arrested, ranging in rank from officer to sergeant, including Commander Ouedraogo Frédéric.
