Fatih Birol, the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, confirmed that Morocco is a shining example in the field of renewable energy development.

Speaking via video link on Wednesday during the sixteenth energy conference, themed “Energy: A Strategic Pillar for Water Security and Sustainable Development,” Birol stated, “We are pleased to cooperate with the kingdom, which has made significant strides in recent years in the development of green energy.”

The Executive Director of the International Energy Agency noted that Ouarzazate hosts one of the largest solar power plants in the world, highlighting that the world is entering the era of electricity.

He further added, “Gas is important; however, electricity will become increasingly significant worldwide, especially in the Middle East and North Africa, which are experiencing growing demand for electricity, among the highest in the world due to various factors.”

In this regard, he emphasized the International Energy Agency’s report, which includes recommendations for governments and industry players to maximize the benefits of the electricity era in the Middle East and North Africa and beyond.
