Minister of Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson Mustapha Baitas announced on Monday at the House of Representatives that the response rate to written questions has reached 70.81 percent to date.
In response to an oral question regarding “the oversight results and the government’s responsiveness to written questions” posed by the National Rally of Independents during the oral question session, the minister noted that the government had received a total of 27,981 written questions thus far, responding to 19,812 during the current legislative term.
Baitas indicated that the majority of these questions came from the House of Representatives, with the government receiving a total of 21,183 questions from this chamber, answering 15,072, which reflects a response rate of 71.16 percent, while it received 6,798 written questions from the House of Councillors, responding to 4,740, representing nearly 70 percent.
The minister emphasized that the oversight mechanism of written questions is crucial due to its connection to local issues and the high efficiency it offers in addressing many files, clarifying that the government places significant importance on this matter.
He remarked that the government has made notable progress in this regard, pointing out that the number of answered written questions has significantly increased compared to previous government terms. He noted that the government is working to improve the quality of responses and to focus on the topics raised, particularly as the information system in use has facilitated question handling.
Baitas also addressed the public debate regarding the publication of written responses, asserting that the answers “do not belong to the ministry but to the parliamentarians and councillors, who decide whether to publish them or not.” He clarified that responses should not be published before they are reviewed by the deputies and councillors, stating that the ministry’s role is to regulate, not to publish the answers.
